Every time someone finds out what I do for a living I hear the same thing:
I know I should exercise but I just don't like it
I don't have the time
I don't know what to do
Botttom line is it doesn't matter if you don't like it! If you've been inactive for a while, exercise is uncomfortable! But the consequence of continued inactivity is a body that doesn't work the way you want it to, aches and pains in your knees and back, shortness of breath walking up the stairs, difficulty getting in and out of your car, and that's not enjoyable either! The benefit of exercise will extend to your whole life. Isn't that worth a few hours a week of being uncomfortable? In my experience most people start to enjoy exercise when their bodies begin to respond and they feel the endorphins from a great workout.
Time? Yes, time can be an issue if you let it! But do you have time to be sick? Do you have time to watch the full season of "Tiger King"? You have time for what you make a priority.
Your health should be your first priority!
Yes! Even before your job and your children!!!!
Did I just say that?!?!
Yes I did! Let me explain; if you are sick you cannot work, or your work will be compromised at the very least! If you are sick you cannot be there for your family!
Let me tell you why I feel so passionately about this and how I know that your health is the most important thing!
I grew up with a mother who put me and my sister first and did not look after her health. She did what she thought was the best option for us and it took a huge toll on her. As a result she was depressed and had the belief that this is just the life she was dealt and there was nothing she could do to change it. She refused to do anything for herself! Over the years she withered away. I watched a woman with so much to offer the world slowly die before my eyes at the age of 57, just six weeks after my first child was born!
The consequence of my mother putting everything before her own health was leaving this world way too early. The consequence was leaving her oldest daughter alone to raise her children without a mother. The consequence was missing out on the amazing lives of her grandchildren!
Is that a price you are willing to pay? Is it worth it? What do you really want your life to be like? Maybe you don't feel that you are like my mother. When will that change? What you decide to do today can make all the difference.
If you want to be the best person you can be for yourself and for everyone who loves you, take the time!
And to address the last road block in your way "I don't know what to do!"
